Breakout Prevention

Vitamin A biology underpins acne care. β-carotene supports this pathway as a safer provitamin A, converting to retinol as needed. Historically, oral vitamin A (retinol/retinyl palmitate) was used for acne before isotretinoin; a 2022 review of 8 clinical trials reported improvements in 8/9 studies (36,000–100,000 IU/day, under monitoring). This highlights vitamin A’s role in normalizing follicular keratinization and sebum. Aloe vera adds a direct anti-acne effect: a placebo-controlled trial in mild–moderate acne found oral aloe juice significantly reduced lesion counts. Magnesium supports on the inflammatory side: meta-analyses of randomized trials show supplementation lowers C-reactive protein (CRP), a key marker of systemic inflammation linked to acne.

Puffiness & Facial Bloating

Dandelion leaf extract has demonstrated a natural diuretic effect in humans. In a pilot study, ingestion of dandelion extract significantly increased both urinary frequency and volume, supporting its role in reducing water retention. Potassium (as citrate) enhances this effect by promoting natriuresis—the excretion of sodium in urine. Human studies show potassium supplementation increases urinary sodium loss and counteracts sodium retention through a kidney “K-switch” mechanism, functioning similarly to mild thiazide diuretics. Together, these actions help the body release excess water and sodium, supporting a leaner, less bloated appearance.

Skin Texture and Hydration

Oral hyaluronic acid (HA) has been studied in randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials, showing measurable improvements in skin hydration, smoothness, and overall radiance (e.g., NCT05813054 and peer-reviewed studies). By replenishing the skin’s natural moisture matrix, HA supports a plumper, more luminous appearance. Aloe vera complements this pathway. Its polysaccharides support mucopolysaccharides in both the skin and gut, contributing to barrier integrity and hydration. In addition to its acne benefits, clinical work with oral aloe reported improvements in skin comfort and soothing effects.

Glow & Even Skin Tone

β-Carotene supports natural skin radiance by depositing carotenoids in the skin, leading to a measurable shift in skin tone (increased yellowness and redness). Human supplementation studies show this change enhances perceived facial health and attractiveness within ~8–12 weeks. Vitamin C contributes on the pigmentation side. A meta-analysis of human trials found vitamin C supplementation reduces hyperpigmentation and protects against UV-induced darkening. Mechanistically, it works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the key enzyme driving melanin production.
